Vulnerable adult missing on Haytor Down

Our regular Wednesday night training session was interrupted with a call from Devon and Cornwall Police to assist them with a missing person search in the Haytor area.

Dartmoor Rescue teams on a joint exercise with 846 NAS based at Yeovilton on a Ten Tors training exercise before the event in May.The training session was a joint Dartmoor Rescue exercise involving all 4 teams along with an 846 NAS Merlin helicopter from Yeovilton, in preparation for the annual Ten Tors event to be held in a couple of weeks time. The helicopter crew very kindly delivered a number of our team members from the White Tor area on the West side of the moor to the Visitor Centre car park in readiness for the search.

The missing adult had gone for a run and not returned when expected. Team members congregated in the car park to await deployment whilst the Police Helicopter (NPAS) conducted search patterns across the Down.

A phone call was received by the Police around 9pm from a member of the public who was concerned about an individual matching our missing person’s description, who was spotted in Chudleigh Knighton. Police attended the scene and around 9:30pm the team were stood down when the person was located by Police safe and well.
