Worried family prompts search for missing teenage Walker

Last night’s joint training exercise with Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Tavistock turned into our 37th callout of the year and the second in as many days as team members arrived at the RV at Two Bridges.

Nav TrainingThe worried family of an experienced and well equipped teenage walker who left home for a few days Dartmoor camping had called Police after no communication had been received from her since she left.

Members from both teams retraced her intended route and other locations on the north moor in freezing temperatures and thick fog looking for her.

Late into the evening a member of the public reported seeing somebody matching her description who had pitched a tent in the Sourton Tors area of the moor. Shortly before midnight the camper was awoken from her peaceful slumber and confirmed to be the person we were looking for.

We were very pleased that she was found safe and well and left her to finish her trip. She is expected home to her very relieved family on Friday.
